Description
With fresh, soft, rose-like, and gently sweet at the front and clean petals, mild honey, and a watery floral trace emerging later, Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol (PEA) offers a clear two-stage profile.
Rather than acting as a finished fragrance, it can support the accordās floral or aromatic body and make its central idea read more clearly, especially in rose accords. With Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol (PEA), the rose & softness effect is most useful when it strengthens the intended accord rather than drawing attention to the raw material itself.
Restraint preserves its role. An excessive dose can make the formula thin, soapy, or overly simple. A blotter establishes direction, but the finished base shows whether Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol (PEA) is supporting the formula or beginning to obscure it.

Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol (PEA)
CAS:Ā 60-12-8
Odour (decreasing): Floral-rose, fresh, rosewater, honey
Uses: This is one of the most useful synthetics for any perfumer: PEA, first identified in rose, is present in the natural scent of many flowers. Unlike most perfumery materials this one is slightly soluble in water, particularly hot water, which means that when natural rose otto is distilled most of the PEA is lost in the water and does not make it into the oil, so perfumers normally add it back when rose otto is being used - about four times as much as the otto. It has a lovely mild, fresh floral-rose scent that can be easily pushed in the direction of other flowers when used in combination with other materials.
