Description
Benzyl Alcohol is an aromatic alcohol used where solvency, mild odour, and quiet formulation support are useful. It does not behave like a strong floral aroma material. Its scent is soft, faintly sweet, lightly floral, and slightly balsamic, staying behind the main composition rather than leading it.
Within fragrance work, personal care formulation, aroma bases, and systems where solvency or quiet aromatic support is useful, it is most useful when asked to support the accordās floral or aromatic body and make its central idea read more clearly.
The useful window closes once the material begins to feel flat, solvent-like, dull, or slightly medicinal.

Odour (decreasing): Floral-rose, phenolic, balsamic, mild and with only a very slight almond note.
Benzyl alcohol is a natural constituent of several essential oils, including ylang ylang, jasmine and styrax. This fragrance material also has antiseptic and antibacterial properties which means it can be used as a preservative, even in its synthetic form.
Uses: Benzyl alcohol prolongs the freshness of a formula by stopping bacteria from forming a cell wall around itself. This means a second generation of microbes canā¬ā¢t form.Ā It can also act as a natural fixative and blending agent in flower scents.
