Description

The defining feature of Hydroxycitronellal is its movement from fresh, sweet, floral, and muguet-like to soft lily petals, clean powder, and gentle citrus warmth.

Its role is to give the opening lift and definition while separating notes that might otherwise feel blurred; that is particularly useful in muguet accords. With Hydroxycitronellal, the muguet & softness effect is most useful when it strengthens the intended accord rather than drawing attention to the raw material itself.

Its limitation appears at higher levels, where the result can become powdery, soapy, or overly sweet. A blotter establishes direction, but the finished base shows whether Hydroxycitronellal is supporting the formula or beginning to obscure it.

CAS: 107-75-5

Odour (decreasing): Delicate, Floral, Lily of the Valley

Uses: The floral notes are mild, light and resemble Lily of the Valley. The tenacity is good, and the odour diffusion increases significantly when the material is properly blended with lower boiling odourants or modifiers. One of the most frequently used floralising perfume materials, it finds its way into almost every type of floral fragrance, and a great many nonfloral ones. Its concentration in perfumes may vary from about 1% up to 30 or 40% in straight floral types.
