Description

The defining feature of Benzyl Acetate is its movement from sweet, floral, fruity, and jasmine-like to pear, banana, and soft white-petal warmth.

The material earns its place in jasmine accords, gardenia, ylang-style florals, fruity blends, soaps, and shampoos by helping to connect fruity and floral facets while bringing brightness and recognisable character. With Benzyl Acetate, the jasmine & fruit effect is most useful when it strengthens the intended accord rather than drawing attention to the raw material itself.

Build the level slowly; excess can blur its jasmine & fruit effect and make it dominate the accord. A blotter establishes direction, but the finished base shows whether Benzyl Acetate is supporting the formula or beginning to obscure it.

Details

Benzyl Acetate

CAS: 140-11-4

Odour (decreasing): Sweet, floral, fruity, jasmine, fresh.

It is almost inevitably the largest component in Jasmine and Gardenia fragrances, and it enters in a multitude of other floral fragrance types in smaller proportions. Its poor tenacity is usually compensated for by proper blending with higher esters of Benzyl alcohol, and with suitable fixatives. In the industrial odours, the volatility of Benzyl-acetate is often only an advantage.

Uses: Very extensively used in perfumery, from the lowest priced industrial odours to the most highly appreciated cosmetic fragrances, often constituting the main ingredient in a perfume oil.
