Description

Benzophenone begins with an impression of very mild, sweet, balsamic, and powdery. As the material settles, a quiet floral warmth that stays close to the base becomes more apparent, giving the profile more depth than its first impact suggests.

Placed in powdery accords, floral bases, soaps, and formulations where discreet aromatic support is useful, it can supply a specific accent, strengthen the central accord, or connect neighbouring materials. With Benzophenone, the soft & powdery effect is most useful when it strengthens the intended accord rather than drawing attention to the raw material itself.

A measured addition keeps the effect articulate; too much may feel flat, dusty, or nearly imperceptible. A blotter establishes direction, but the finished base shows whether Benzophenone is supporting the formula or beginning to obscure it.

Details

Benzophenone

CAS: 119-61-9

Odour (decreasing): Floral-rose, powdery, geranium, metallic.

A very mild-smelling solid that comes as white flakes. It has an extremely low vapor pressure at room temperature, and its effect upon the fragrance is only perceptible and apparent in mixtures with lower boiling items or at higher temperatures.

Uses: A good fixative for rose and other floral notes that is also very helpful in hot applications like candles and bath oils.  Used extensively in perfumes for sweet-woody-geranium-like notes.
