Description
Citral has a strong lemon-like aroma with sharp citrus brightness, aldehydic cleanliness, and a dry peel edge. It should not be described like a complete essential oil. Citral is a fragrance constituent found naturally in several citrus and lemongrass-type oils, and it behaves more directly than whole lemon oil: brighter, cleaner, thinner, and less rounded.
The first impression is immediate and recognisable, giving formulas a clear lemon signal almost at once. With time, the scent becomes drier and more functional, leaving a sharp citrus-clean trace rather than juicy fruit sweetness. This makes Citral useful in soaps, detergents, room sprays, citrus accords, fragrance blends, and carefully formulated cosmetics where a formula needs clean lemon definition.
Citral needs careful use. In small amounts, it sharpens citrus blends. Used heavily, it can become harsh, soapy, thin, or cleaner-like.
Essential oils can be applied topically once diluted with a carrier oil. They are widely used in cosmetic goods and handmade crafts.
