Description

Valerian Root Essential Oil has a strong earthy aroma with old root, animal musk, damp wood, balsamic bitterness, and overripe warmth. It is not a decorative botanical scent. Valerian can smell difficult, sweaty, sour, or sock-like when used too strongly, which makes restraint essential.

The first impression is rooty and musky, then the scent settles into warmer balsam and bitter wood. This makes Valerian useful only in low-dose work for natural perfumes, tobacco accords, root accords, dark balsams, experimental soaps, earthy bases, and blends with patchouli, vetiver, myrrh, opoponax, cedarwood, dark spice, or costus-like effects.

Valerian Root’s value is underneath. Used lightly, it gives shadow and realism. Used heavily, it becomes dirty, stale, sweaty, and commercially difficult.

Essential oils can be applied topically once diluted with a carrier oil. They are widely used in cosmetic goods and handmade crafts.
